Everything that comes out of our studio is made by one of the
Bendzunas family.
All
work is done from tanks of molten glass, using a traditional techniques.
Each piece demands hundreds of decisions during its creation.
All of this is done while constantly moving and turning the piece
on the end of a five foot hollow stainless steel tube, called
a "pipe". Resulting is a series in which no two pieces
are exactly alike.
We
love to have you come watch. Please call the day before to find
out what hours we will be doing the actual blowing. We also offer
tours and demonstrations at no charge for groups. Please call
or email us and let us know your needs.
Paul
Bendzunas started blowing glass while attending the University
of Georgia. He was studying sculpture, and was attracted to the
immediacy of glass.
A
creative problem solver and tinkerer, he built his own studio
and experimented until he developed his own palate of colors and
shapes. In 1980 he entered a series of shows, began marketing,
and has been working full time in hot glass every since.
He
has studied at the Penland School and worked with other glass
blowers whenever possible, but is mainly self taught.
Twin sons, Paul and George, and daughter, Elizabeth Poss, all
started creating paperweights when they got old enough to be
safe in the studio.
Paul
and George experiment with forged metal occassionally. However,
they have decided to develop their own style of blowing, and also
assist in production pieces for our wholesale line.
The
family tradition extends to our granddaughter, Morrigan, who helps
by being cute and cuddly.
